Red Squirrel Workshop

This workshop gives you the opportunity to spend the day in two hides in the Yorkshire Dales, photographing red squirrels.

These hides allow photographers to capture both static and action shots of Red Squirrels in one session. From moss covered tree stumps and fallen logs to attractive pine trees, lichen covered dry stone walls and not forgetting the reflection pool, this workshop provides the ideal opportunity to create a varied portfolio of Red Squirrel images.

You can also attempt to capture Red Squirrels jumping. Some stunning images can be captured with Squirrels being caught “mid-flight” and I will be there to guide you through the best techniques and settings to use, to enable you to achieve these images.

Equipment Required

  • Your favourite camera.

  • A focal length of 300mm is ideal for this location. (I personally use a 100-400mm zoom lens here).

  • Tripod is not required, as the hide rental comes with use of beanbags. However, if you would rather use a gimbal or ball head then each window sill includes a special plate where any standard 3/8 inch threaded head (Wimberley included) can be attached.

  • Warm clothing and waterproof footwear.

  • Spare cards and batteries.

At a small additional cost I can lend you a Canon 7dmkii and a Canon 100-400mkii lens if you require.
