Otter Workshops

The otters of the Isle of Mull are among the most exciting and rewarding wildlife subjects to photograph in the UK. From intimate close-up portraits to wider environmental images along Mull’s dramatic coastline, these charismatic animals offer endless photographic opportunities in ever-changing light and landscapes.

Having spent more than five years running successful photography tours and workshops on the island, Rich has developed an in-depth knowledge of the local otters, their behaviour and the best locations and conditions for photography.

These specific workshops are available throughout October and can be run on either a 1-1 or 2-1 basis.

Each workshop runs from sunrise to sunset, giving you the best possible chance to observe and photograph otters during the most productive times of day, while also taking advantage of the beautiful changing light across the island’s shores and lochs.

All levels of experience are welcome on this workshop

What Previous Participants Said:

“I just got back from an Isle of Mull photography tour with Richard and had a fantastic time. Not only was he a kind and accommodating host but he went above and beyond to make sure that we all got the images we wanted. I am very new to photography and Richard shared lots of his knowledge and helped me understand how to take better shots and how to edit properly. Importantly, he taught us animal behaviours and how to make sure we put their welfare first. He works really hard for his clients and he really cares that they enjoy their time out in the field. I am really looking forward to the next time I can join him on a tour or workshop!” - Kathryn Darby

“I attended a workshop run by Richard on the Isle of Mull at the start of May for a week and had an absolutely fantastic time! Richard is a very experienced photographer and was very knowledgeable about our subjects (mostly otters!), meaning that we had encounters with our target species everyday of the trip. He went above and beyond to help everyone in the group achieve images that that they were happy with whilst also keeping the welfare of the animals at the forefront. I couldn't recommend his workshops enough!” - Sophie Bestwick
